I've transferred data from one PC to another.  Why do I get an error when opening the Member or Visitor pages?

Answer/Resolution

This article applies to you if you have transferred Envision data from one PC to another using a CD and now you get an error when opening the Members or Visitors screens that says "Run-time error: Consumer's event handler called a non-reentrant method in the provider".

Transferring files on CD means that the files must be made read-only while on the CD.  Some computers leave the read-only property turned on when you copy the files off the CD onto your computer.  Envision needs this property turned back off in order to work properly.

To turn off the read-only property, follow these steps:

  • Close down Envision if it is running
  • Open the Windows Explorer by right-clicking on the Start button and choosing Explore.
  • Navigate to the C:\Program Files\Envision folder using the expandable icons on the left side of the window.
  • Click on the Envision folder so that its contents are listed on the right.
  • Locate the file EnvData.mdb and right-click on it.  Choose Properties.
  • At the bottom of the box that appears, there's a read-only checkbox next to a label that says Attributes.  Make sure the read-only checkbox is unchecked (cleared) and click Ok.
  • If you transferred the photos folder with your data, you may need to perform the same operation on the Photos folder as well.
  • Now open Envision and try again.
